Walk:  Great Dun Fell, Little Dun Fell, Cross Fell
Start Point: Milburn Grid Ref: NY 656 294
Distance:  14 miles Ascent:  3,000 feet
Weather: A dull but fine day

Comments: Cross Fell is the highest point of the Pennines and Great Dun Fell is the home of the Pennine Radar station

Milburn is a very picturesque place to start the walk

 

Heading up Great Dun Fell the radar station comes into view . . .

 

or is that a sailing ship I can see?

 

All becomes clear as we get closer

 

and closer

 

Descending by the gully known as Black Doors

 

The Lake District Fells are just visible in the distance

 

Looking back to Black Doors - it's like a miniature High Cup Nick

 

A little splash of colour on the way back - a clump of marsh marigolds
