Walk: Starbotton, Old Cote Moor Top, Moss Top, Horse Head Gate, Horse Head, Yockenthwaite, Scar House, Buckden Rake
Start Point: Buckden car park Grid Ref: SD 942 773
Distance:  14 miles Ascent:  2,400 feet
Weather: A bright and sunny day but windy on the tops
Accompanied by:

John L (leader), Ray, Mandy, Ross, Phil, Eric, Marie, John D, a couple of visitors

Comments: Pleasant walk on the Dales Way and a gradual climb to the top of the moor. A little tedious along the top but a gradual descent to Yockenthwaite and a very pleasant walk back

Scroll down to see photos of the walk

Walking along the Dales Way we can see Starbotton across the River Wharfe

It doesn't take long before we need to adjust clothing

But it is rather cool (and barren) at Firth Fell trig point

Birk's Tarn is the only highlight along this section of the walk

Horse Head trig point warrants a slight detour to get a photo . . .

while the group waits at the other side of the gate

A pleasant drop by Hagg Beck into Yockenthwaite . . .

provides a good view down the valley

A pleasant grassy path . . .

before we navigate some limestone pavement . . .

and a rocky outcrop

And finally a view down Wharfedale towards Buckden
