On my own

Comments: This walk was to check out parts of the route for a walk I was going to lead, making some changes to the route I had done previously. After checking the route over Little Meldrum, and the descent I had thought of doing from Little Mell Fell, I decided to stick to the earlier route, apart from a more direct approach to Gowbarrow Fell, straight from Dockray.

A pleasant track leads from Dockray and Great Mell Fell comes into view

Ullswater can just be glimpsed with Place Fell towering behind

A little higher and more of Ullswater can be seen with Place Fell to the left

Looking back down to Dockray from the climb up to Gowbarrow Fell

9am and Gowbarrow Fell is deserted - Great Mell Fell is directly behind it

Ullswater with the Loadpot Hill range behind

Little Mell Fell with Great Mell Fell just visible

Looking North the mist is filling the valley but Scotland can be seen beyond

Great Mell fell obscures Blencathra which has a misty hat on

Walking back through the forest there are some good views of Hallin Fell and Ullswater . . .

The ruins of the shooting hut are the signal to turn off the path and head through the forest

The bridge in Dockray . . .

with an adjacent parking area
