Walk: Slipper Lowe car park, Roddlesworth Reservoirs, Earnsdale Reservoir, Sunnyhurst Wood, Jubilee Tower, Darwen Moor
Start Point: Slipper Lowe car park Grid Ref: SD 664 202
Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 1,500 feet
Weather: Sunny with a very cold wind on exposed paths
Accompanied by:

On my own

Comments: From the Slipper Lowe car park I headed through the Tockholes plantations and round the two reservoirs. After walking across to Earnsdale Reservoir I headed into Sunnyhurst Wood before climbing up to Jubilee Tower. Passing under the Lych Gate I walked up the road before taking the path across to the main route and up to the tower. As expected, the route and the tower were very busy and as there was a very strong wind it was not long before I continued across Darwen Moor and back to the car.

Scroll down to see photos of the walk

Jubilee Tower first comes into view over the first of the two Roddlesworth reservoirs

It is beginning to look closer from the path across to Sunnyhurst Wood . . .

and closer still across Earnsdale Reservoir - but I wasn't taking the direct route

I walked to the bandstand in Sunnyhurst Wood before heading up to the Lych Gate car park

The sun highlights the tower - but the wind is very cold!

From the Tower, Darwen . . .

and Blackburn spread out for miles

The trig point at the Tower catches the sun . . .

as does Sunnyhurst Reservoir as I head for Darwen Moor
