Walk: Rivington Great House Barn, The Castle, Rivington Pike, Rivington Hall Barn
Start Point: Great House Barn Grid Ref: SD 630 141
Distance: 4.5 miles Ascent: 740 feet
Weather: Misty with a light covering of snow
Accompanied by:

5 members of the group, led by John D

Comments: Today's walk had been changed to a local one because of a forecast of snow in the Lake District. I had sprained my ankle quite badly the previous week so decided to only do part of the walk this week. As the walk was in an area that I know well it was easy to take a shorter route back to the car after visiting Rivington Pike. A mist obscured any distant views but it was a pleasant day and not too cold.

An overnight covering of snow . . .

has left the trees with their winter coat on

The pictures are almost monochrome . . .

even when looking over Rivington Lower Reservoir

The Lord and Lady of the Manor enter the Castle . . .

and the group surveys the scene . . .

across the reservoir

Time to continue with the walk . . .

we head along one of the many tree lined routes through the park

It doesn't look like there is much to eat here . . .

but the farmer had provided plenty of hay

A reminder of Christmas . . .

as we take in the surrounding misty views

Rivington Pike looks rather forlorn today . . .

so we head down to the Pigeon Tower for our morning coffee
