Walk: Denham Hill, Hough Hill, Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Croston Farm, Cuerden Valley
Start Point: Home Grid Ref: SD 574 225
Distance: 9.3 miles Ascent: 700 feet
Weather: Cold and clear Time: 4.5 hours
Comments: The weather was too good to stay indoors so I did a quick local walk to Denham Hill and along the canal before returning home. The canal had a thin layer of ice on which some of the ducks were found. Others enjoyed the clear water near the lock gates.

From the trig point on Hough Hill . . .

the views across to a sunlit Preston were clear

Someone is at home - but the canal is frozen . . .

with the ice acting like a mirror

Not speaking today!

It's best to stand on one leg and hide your head in this cold weather

Don't know what these are called . . .

but this one looks a bit huffy

The Canada Geese enjoy some clear water . . .

and the overflow provides a good spot to stand

Alternatively, you could try a bit of grass
