Walk: Troutbeck, Skelghyll Wood, Ambleside, Stockghyll Force Wansfell Pike, Troutbeck
Start Point: Church Bridge, Troutbeck Grid Ref: NY 412 027
Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 1,900 feet
Weather: Overcast with some sun and a very short but heavy hail shower Time: 6.5 hours
Comments: Joe, Charlotte and Beth accompanied me on this walk - a first for the four of us to walk together. We headed out along Robin Lane where we got some good views over Windermere. A short stop at Jenkin Crag allowed time for a drink and snack before making our way into Ambleside. The Giggling Goose was the ideal venue for hot chocolate and scones then it was time to explore the walking boots in Gaynors - a pair to replace the 'not walking' boots that Joe had been wearing! As we came out of the shop a sudden hail shower sent us scurrying for shelter. Fortunately it didn't take long before the shower stopped and we were on our way. After visiting Stockghyll Force we realised that the road was completely dry - the hail shower not reached this far! We climbed (quite steeply) to Wansfell Pike where we had good views in all directions. After a brief stop for lunch we made our way downhill to Nanny Lane and back to the car.
