Walk: Newby, Crina Bottom, Ingleborough, Little Ingleborough, Gaping Gill, Long Scar, Norber Erratics, Thwaite Lane
Start Point: Clapham Grid Reference: SD 745 693
Distance: 13.7 miles Ascent: 2,900 feet
Time: 6.5 hours
Weather: Sunny and mild but hazy in the distance
Comments: After losing an hour (British Summer Time) the previous night we decided on a short(ish) journey to Clapham for a walk up to Ingleborough. Being in a limestone area the paths through the fields were relatively dry and a pleasure to walk on. There was a cold wind on Ingleborough but for much of the time we were able to walk without coats. The surrounding limestone outcrops provided good views but the haze in the distance prevented any long range photos. A very enjoyable day.

A couple of donkeys enjoy the grass as we walk along Laithbutts Lane . . .

and there are lots of lambs around now

Crows nesting high in the trees - and a couple guard their nest

A picuresque cottage with an interesting looking porch

Ingleborough still looks a long way away . . .

and there would be a good view from the other side of the tree if it wasn't hazy

Sheila leads the way over the stile . . .

to an ideal elevenses spot

Crina Bottom Farm

Looking back - our path is on the left but in the centre . . .

another path looks worthy of exploration (next time)

Sheila and Ian check out the first cairn . . .

where I take it easy

The wall provides a little shelter for our lunch stop . . .

and the summit plateau is as windy as ever

Looking back from Little Ingleborough . . .

and a rocky path leads down to . . .

Gaping Gill where Fell Beck disappears . . .

into a BIG HOLE!

Our return route detours across to . . .

Norber Erratics
