Walk: Skelgill Bank, Cat Bells, Hause End, Manesty Park, Brandelhow Park, Hawes End
Start Point: Grange Road Grid Reference: NY 248 210
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 1,550 feet
Time: 2.75 hours
Weather: Some heavy drizzle towards the end of the walk
Comments: With a forecast of heavy rain heading up from the south I decided on a quick walk up Cat Bells before heading home. The surrounding fell tops were much clearer than the previous day but they had clouded over by the end of the walk. The paths through the parks were well-drained but the level of the lake was very high making the landing stages for the ferry inaccessible.

From Skelgill Bank there are good views to Skiddaw . . .

Blencathra . . .

and Causey Pike

Looking back over Skelgill Bank

and over Derwent Water from the summit . . .

where a young couple are doing some navigation training

The mist rises as I descend from Hause Gate . ..

but it soon clears to leave some whispy clouds behind

Abbots Bay where the high water level gives a photo opportunity . . .

as does the next small bay . . .

The mist has descended on Skiddaw now - and the smoke was still there an hour later!

Brandelhow landing stage seems rather unstable

I first saw these hands in June 2010 . . .

when this shot . . .

looked quite different!
