Walk: Hayeswater Gill, Rest Dodd, The Nab, Satura Crag, Angle Tarn, Angletarn Pikes, Boredale Hause, Crookabeck, Hartsop
Start Point: Hartsop car park Grid Reference: NY 410 130
Distance: 10.2 miles Ascent: 3,230 feet
Time: 6.5 hours
Weather: A rolling mist gave us glimpses of great views and a heavy snow shower was eventually replaced by clear blue skies.
Comments: The climb soon took us into snow and mist as we made our way to Rest Dodd, where a previous walker had taken residence in the cairn. A steep descent needed lots of care as we made our way to The Nab, spotting a herd of deer on the way. Making our way to Angletarn Pikes Garry reminded us that the north summit was the highest - even though it has the smallest cairn. After reaching Boredale Hause, John chose the path towards Patterdale before leading us along the valley floor through Crookabeck. A great walk despite the mist.

Ready for 'the off' . . .

Gray Crag sports a dusting of snow

We soon climb up into the mist . . .

and along the snow covered path towards Rest Dodd . . .

where Lesley has lent her hat to The Ice Man . .

and we take a minute to peruse . . .

why he has been left here

Les and Lesley have fun on the steep descent but Garry imagines he has a sledge

Nearly at the bottom of the descent . . .

a blizzard encourages us to . . .

seek the shelter of the wall for our elevenses stop

The blizzard has given way to blue skies as we head twards The Nab . . .

and spot a herd of deer . . .

in the distance

Looking back towards Rest Dodd . . .

from the summit of The Nab

Making our way back across The Nab . . .

the mist suddenly clears . . .

to reveal the ridge from High Raise to the north

The deer have stopped for some grass . . .

but one has its eyes on us . . .

as we continue towards Satura Crag

The Nab with Beda Fell to the left and Steel Knotts to the right

Time for lunch . . .

before being treated to views of Bannerdale

Mist obscures Angletarn Pikes . . .

and deep discussions . . .

continue as we climb . . .

the flanks of . . .

the southerly pike . . .

and the northerly pike sits under blue sky

Angle Tarn from south summit

Ullswater from north summit
