Llyn y Fan Fach

13/09/2012

Walk: Llyn y Fan Fach, Bannau Sir Gaer, Picws Du, Pant y Bwlch
Start Point: Parking area beyond Blaenau Farm (along a very narrow tarmac road then on an unmade road) Grid Ref: SN 796 238
Distance: 6 miles Ascent: 1,620 feet
Weather: Sunny and warm with a cold breeze on the escarpment Time: 3 hours
Comments: A wide track gradually ascended from the car park to the lake which, with clear blue skies, was a  photographer’s delight. A narrow track climbed gently from the lake onto the escarpment with more good views on the way. The path followed the escarpment at the edge of a broad ridge with the high point at Picws Du. From there the grassy path descended to a gully then followed a narrow zig-zagging track below the cliff of Picws Du. Gradually descending over open moorland we reached the outward track and quickly returned to the car.
