Green Crag

18/10/2013

Walk: Doctor Bridge, Low Birker, Tarn Crag, Green Crag, Crook Crag, Kepple Crag, Penny Hill
Start Point: The Woolpack Inn Grid Ref: NY 190 009
Distance: 5.6 miles Ascent: 1,685 feet
Max Altitude: 1,685 feet Time: 3 hours
Weather Mist and light rain with heavier rain towards the end of the walk
Comments: As it was raining quite heavily when we arrived at our starting point, The Woolpack Inn, we decided to eat our lunch before setting out. After crossing Doctor Bridge over the River Esk we climbed above Low Birker onto the plateau of wild heathery wilderness where the path was often difficult to follow. Eventually reaching the final rocky outcrop we approached from the rear, as Wainwright suggests. Views were mixed as the mist drifted around and we were soon on our way back, eventually descending via Penny Hill.
