Walk: Kentmere, Hallow Bank Quarter, Nan Bield Pass, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike, Shipman Knotts, Wray Crag, Rook Howe
Start Point: Farmer's field in Kentmere Grid Ref: NY 458 039
Distance: 10 miles Ascent: 2,500 feet
Weather: A sunny start and end to the day but low mist and some heavy showers during the walk
Accompanied by:

Marie, Ray and members of the Fours group, led by Sheila

Comments: As our walk had been cancelled Marie and I decided to join the 'Moderate' group who were doing Harter Fell from Kentmere. It was a sunny start as we walked up the valley and we had good views of Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick, which we had traversed when we did the Kentmere Horseshoe in May. By the time we reached the Nan Bield Pass we were in mist and it had begun to rain. After donning waterproofs we continued up to Harter Fell where we found a little shelter for lunch. Just as we finished eating there was a very heavy downpour - time for the umbrellas! We continued on to Kentmere Pike and Shipman Knotts before descending to the Sadgill to Kentmere path. By this time the rain had just about stopped and the weather improved as we made our way back to the cars.

Lots of streams to cross . . .

as we head up the valley . . .

from where we can see the Kentmere Horseshoe

Yoke, Ill bell and Froswick remind us of our walk around the horseshoe in May

Any sign of Robin Hood?

Another stream to cross - at least there's a bridge this time

A brief stop for elevenses . . .

before continuing on past the reservoir - and into the mist

Do we really want to climb up to the pass?

Time for the waterproofs before we head up to Harter Fell where the rain was too heavy to take photos . . .

until we were nearly back into Kentmere . . .

but the mist still covers the fell tops
