Walk: Cow Hill Circuit via the Peat Track, Cow Hill summit, return to Cow Hill circuit. Ballachulish slate quarry and the peninsula
Start Point: Braveheart car park Grid Reference: NN 121 736
Distance: 6 miles plus 1.7 miles Ascent: 1,400 feet
Time: 3 hours plus 1.5 hours
Weather: Sunny to start becoming overcast later. Light drizzle for the later walk.
Comments:

A pleasant walk varying from wide stony track to a narrow footpath. The detour to Cow Hill summit provided good views to Ben Nevis and down Glen Nevis but the views over Fort William revealed just how industrialised the area is.

After returning to the cottage we took a short walk around Ballachulish Slate Quarry and the nearby peninsula

but would have been a hive of activity . . .

in the late nineteenth century . . .

when six hundred men worked to produce slates that roofed Scotland

Slate arches were built to transport slate down to the loch shore
