Comments:

Walking in Lancashire Walk 27. The book explains that reef knolls were deposited millions of years ago when the area was below the sea. Three of these can be seen below but two more are situated between Warren Hill and Worston. For future walks I would change the route between Clay House and Hookcliffe as this section was a bit tricky to find and very muddy.

Gerna Hill . . .

the first reef knoll

Worsaw Hill, the second reef knoll . . .

and the third one, Warren Hill

Heading down to Chatburn . . .

as Luna checks out the route . . .

and waits for me to finish lunch

The course of the Roman Road runs alongside the A59

After crossing the high bridge over the A59 . . .

our route travels between the stacks of logs . . .

to Fairy Bridge, a packhorse bridge . . .

with no parapets which would get in the way of the pack ponies' panniers

Heading up Downham Green before descending to Downham
