Walk: Warton Beacon, Warton Crag, Crag Foot, Leighton Moss, Leighton Hall, Coach Road, Warton
Start Point: Warton Quarry car park Grid Reference: SD 497 724
Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 1,215 feet
Time: 4 hours
Weather: Overcast with a light drizzle in the afternoon
Comments: Another challenging walk!! After climbing up to the beacon the footpath was very muddy and difficult to navigate. It was then a pretty straightforward walk until I reached the turning off Coach Road onto the Crag Road bridleway. This walk was taken from the book 'Walking in Lancashire'. It described this section as short but steep with a stile leading back into the nature reserve. NO STILE, or other access!!! Consequently I had to return to the car park via Main Street and Crag Road.

From the car park a footpath heads out parallel with the road before climbing the limestone terraces . . . .

where there are views across to Morecambe Bay and Heysham . . .

and eventually above the quarry itself

The beacon was erected in 1988 and lit again in 2012, 2016 and 2022

An unusual conifer seems out of place here

Railway crossing on New Road . . .

where the lights started flashing just after I had crossed it . . .

and I was lucky enough to catch the train on camera

The Leighton Moss causeway is bordere by tall grass . . .

and trees . . .

but we found a couple of spots . . .

where you can see towards the water . . .

but no birds!!!

Leighton Hall - closed until May!!

A pleasant woodland path above Leighton Hall
