As it was raining quite
heavily when we arrived at our starting point, The
Woolpack Inn, we decided to eat our lunch before setting
out. After crossing Doctor Bridge over the River Esk we
climbed above Low Birker onto the plateau of wild
heathery wilderness where the path was often difficult
to follow. Eventually reaching the final rocky outcrop
we approached from the rear, as Wainwright suggests.
Views were mixed as the mist drifted around and we were
soon on our way back, eventually descending via Penny
Hill. |
