Bordalen Valley, Voss

Monday, 5th July 2010

As there was a mist covering the hill tops it was decided to do a low level walk along the Bordalen valley. Initially we headed towards the lake and across the bridge to follow the road up to the Bordalsgjelet Gorge. From here we took a zig-zag path (cutting off some of the zigs and zags) then headed along the Bordalen Valley. Walking mainly on a dirt track we made good headway with views of the river and surrounding properties. Eventually we reached the road where it crossed the river. This was to be the half way point and the lunch spot. Heading back along the Bordalsvegen (Bordals Road) to Voss we were now on a tarmac road for approximately 5 miles, seeing the valley from the opposite side. After this tedious walk a few lengths in the hotel swimming pool were most welcome.

Zooming in on the opposite side of the valley - strange 'goings on'

Seems a strange place to stack wood - but I'm sure there must be a good reason

I wonder if Norwegian sheep go round in circles?

Scattered homes on the opposite hillside

A pause for a catch-up stop . . .

and time to admire the small waterfall

Looking upriver - and longing to be on the hills to the right!

A lonely llama

Water always attracts the camera . . .

and adds interest to the walk

Ready for the return journey . . .

after lunch beside the river (and road)

Hay bales and snow . . .

and a view down the valley

Something strange lurks amongst the trees . . .

and zooming in we find that it is a ski jump

Is this the new thing in field art?

I don't think this tractor is going anywhere soon . . .

whichever way you look at it

Nearing Voss the lake comes back into view . . .

and before long Voss itself appears

A cottage garden . . .
