|Walk:||Whittle Hills, Top Lock Bridge, Johnson's Hillock, canal towpath, Healey Nab, White Coppice, Wheelton Plantation, Brinscall reservoir, disused railway line, Withnell, Withnell Fold, Hough Hill, Whittle Hills|
|Start Point:||Car parl of A6, near school||Grid Reference:||SD 578 216|
|Distance:||15.5 miles||Ascent:||1,800 feet|
|Weather:||Sunny with a very cold wind|
|Comments:||A crisp cold day as we made our way from Whittle to the outskirts of Chorley, White Coppice, Brinscall and returned via Withnell Fold. A long stretch along the canal and few hills to climb meant that we could maintain a good pace on this longer than usual route.|
Looks light enough from here but was very dark as we walked through . . .
then moved on to . . .
New lock gates at Johnson's Hillock . . .
where the basin has been 'dewatered' . . .
while work goes on
More work to be carried out
Is it a narrowboat . . .
or a gunboat?
I don't think we'll make it that far . . .
or even in the opposite direction
Elevenses at Healey Nab . . .
followed by lunch . . .
at Brinscall Lodge
Reindeer . . .
but no antlers yet
Hough Hill Summit . . .
above Denham Quarry
An interesting tree where there has been lots of erosion . . .
making stones surrounded by the roots visible
