Taking the local bus we
travelled to Ambleside for the start of a walk back to
the hotel. Intending to return items we bought the day
before we arrived too early and had to spend time
sampling the offerings in Costa Coffee! Finally setting
off from the centre of Ambleside we walked through
Stockghyll Woods and past the waterfall before making
our way to the start of the climb to Wansfell Pike. As
it was lunch time when we reached the summit a suitable
place was found to partake of our provisions. A long
downhill section took us into Troutbeck before climbing
again to Longmire Road (track). From here we made our
way past Far Orrest and on to Orrest Head. It was then a
short stretch downhill to the hotel.
As it was quite early when we arrived back at the
hotel two of us decided to walk to Bowness-on-Windermere
- hence the double mileage and ascent figures. After
taking a few photos of the swans we returned to the
hotel - slightly slower than the outward walk as it was
up hill all the way back! |
