Walk: Hookcliffe Plantation, Big End, Barley Lane, Brownlow, Hill Foot, Twiston Mill, The Wood, Twiston Lane, Downham
Start Point: Downham car park Grid Reference: SD 784 440
Distance: 8.7 miles Ascent: 1,870 feet
Time: 5 hours
Weather: A very strong and cold wind on Pendle Hill but with some sunny spells later
Comments:

The first half of the route, which we have walked quite a few times, involves over 1,400 feet ascent in 2.4 miles!! Descending from the southerly end of the ridge to Pendle House we found that the route had been 'upgraded' to include rocky 'steps' breaking up the slope and a 'zig-zag' section added. After leaving Barley Lane navigation became difficult in places. Between Torrid Bank Wood and Hey House Farm the terrain was challenging with stiles being in very poor condition. At one stile the planks were missing, leaving just the posts to stand on - possible for humans but impossible for a dog! This section of the walk WILL NOT be repeated! Overall an enjoyable walk.
