Walk: Stonyhurst College, River Hodder, Cromwell's Bridge, The River Ribble, Jumbles, The Shireburn
Start Point: Hurst Green Village Hall car park Grid Reference: SD 684 382
Distance: 7.1 miles Ascent: 527 feet
Time: 2 hours 43 minutes
Weather: Overcast but mild and some sun to finish
Comments: An early start to miss the rain forecast for late morning. Fortunately the rain didn't arrive and despite recent wet weather there was only one really muddy section between Winckley Hall Farm and The Jumbles.

Autumn is on its way . . .

and the same tree on 21st October 2021

This used to be a grassy footpath across a field?!

Heading through woodland where . . .

Luna inspects the steps down to . . .

a footbridge . . .

and the view back . . .

gives Luna a photo opportunity

A packhorse bridge over the River Hodder, built around 1561 by Sir Richard Shireburn and named after Oliver Cromwell who, in August 1648, marched the New Model Army over it to fight the Royalists at the Battle of Preston

The Jumbles Rocks where the level and speed of water is recorded . . .

and a weir just downriver

The sun makes an appearance as we approach the aqueduct . . .

and Luna will need a good wash down when we get home
