Walk: River Wharfe, Skyreholme, Trollers Gill, Kail Lane, River Wharfe
Start Point: Burnsall Bridge Grid Reference: SE 031 611
Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 800 feet
Time: 4.5 hours
Weather: Sunny and windy at times
Comments:

Having navigated Trollers Gill in 2012 and 2014 I decided to visit it again but on a shorter walk this time. It is only 0.5 miles long but great care is needed along the narrow rocky route.

Burnsall Bridge

Dales Way beside the River Wharfe

Simons Seat comes into view . . .

further along the River Wharfe

Approaching Trollers Gill . . .

Skyreholme Beck travels underground . . .

making it possible to navigatethe limestone gorge

Supposedly the haunt of the "Barquest" or "Barguest" . . .

the terrifying spectral hound of Craven . . .

and which may have even been the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes story "The Hound of the Baskervilles"

But it's also the home of a lead and fluorspar mine last worked in the 1960s

Finally opening out the path leads to a footpath and the route back
