Start Point: Kildonan Grid Reference: NS 033 208
Distance: 7.7 miles Ascent: 893 feet
Time: 5 hours
Weather: Sunny spells but a cool breeze
Comments:

The next section of the Coastal Route would be inaccessible at Brennan Head and Dippen Head due to high tide. Consequently we started the day at Kildonan and took the inland option. This gave us the opportunity to visit the Giants' Graves and Glenashdale Falls before returning to Whiting Bay.

From our starting point we can see over Pladda . . .

to volcanic Ailsa Craig in the distance

Ascending from Kildonan, Holy Island comes into view

A short detour takes us to the Giants' Graves . . .

5,000 year old chambered tombs . . .

which predate the Egyptian Pyramids . . .

and where pottery shards, flint knives, arrowheads . . .

and fragments of burnt bone have been found

Further along the route Goat Fell can just be seen to the left

Our first view of Glenashdale Falls . . .

where the 140 foot drop . . .

can be seen from the viewing platform

Glenashdale Burn as it flows beneath . . .

Ashdale Bridge . . .

and out to sea
