Bushman Cave and Blue Pools

3 miles and 5 miles

We left the hotel just after 9am with the hotel guide and a group of people from the hotel – some of whom looked very poorly equipped. We walked to Doreen Falls, as we did earlier in the week, then carried on to climb to the Bushman Cave containing San Art rock paintings. This was a steep climb on a clear path and with no-one in front of me I enjoyed the exercise. There were some clear paintings, including eland and San people. We walked back to the hotel in time for coffee and cake. At 12 noon we headed out to the Blue Pools in the Tseketseke Valley. This was quite easy walking along an undulating path but very overgrown in places. We ate lunch beside the pools before returning via the upper jogging path and Lake Byron. I did a slight detour to look at the hikers’ graves.

Water is always present in caves used by the San people . . .

and the 'cave' consists more of a rock overhang rather than an enclosed cave

Arriving back at the hotel I spot the unusual means of transporting employees

The afternoon headed out to Blue Pools - not blue today!
