A group of four ladies, and one dog, decided to spend a week walking in the Lake District. It didn't take long before a suitable cottage was found near Loweswater. Crummockwater Cottages is a small complex of three cottages set at the bottom of the Buttermere Valley, with Grassmoor, Mellbreak, Rannerdale Knotts and the Buttermere Fells all nearby. Before long a selection of routes was decided upon, catering arrangements were finalised, transport was organised and we were on our way. Arriving at the cottage we knew our choice had been a good one as a fruit cake and flap jacks were waiting to welcome us on our arrival.
Recovering from the shock of a heavy snowstorm on the first day we decided that we could cope with anything the weather decided to throw at us! However, with the Honister Pass closed later in the week, it didn't take long to adapt our plans and we climbed Haystacks instead of Great Gable. The morning provided the perfect opportunity to take photos of the reflections on Buttermere. A trip round to Wasdale gave us the opportunity to explore the position from which the photograph voted 'The Best View in Britain' was taken.
